If you’re hauling camping gear, chasing sunsets, or crawling rock gardens with a heavy weight rig, your off-road shock suspension better be up to the job. Just ask Collin Riley—@Bugoutoverland who’s been running Ride Shocks on his 3rd Gen 2017 Toyota Tacoma for a full year now.
Let me tell you, this isn’t your average Tacoma build. Collin’s Tacoma tips the scales at 6,200 pounds dry. This truck is fully loaded with aftermarket steel bumpers, winch, rooftop tent, the works. That kind of weight’ll chew through weak shocks faster than a sandstone climb in Moab. But he needed something better—something tuned for off-road suspension abuse, loaded overland travel, and highway manners that wouldn’t shake his coffee loose.
That’s where Ride Shocks came in.
We spec’d Collin’s Tacoma TRD Off-Road with Weight Range 3 coilovers up front and Weight Range 3 shocks in the rear—custom tuned to handle the added weight of accessories and for serious off-road driving. Collin already trusted AccuTune Upper Control Arms, so it made sense to test Ride Shocks new premium off-road suspension system. And test it he did.
From wet and muddy roads to rocky mountain switchbacks, Collin ran Ride Shocks through the wringer. The verdict?
“I’ve had Ride Shocks installed on my truck for almost a year now, and I have put approximately 7,000 miles on them. I have ZERO complaints thus far. I may have been quicker than most to jump on the opportunity to spend the money and install shocks from a new brand, with no reputation on my vehicle, but I have no regrets in doing so. My ride quality has increased substantially since installing Ride on my Tacoma. This suspension setup eats up washboarded dirt roads, crawls over obstacles on the trails like nothing, and is as smooth as butter on the black top. Plus, my truck carries an extra 2,000lbs of weight dry, and the suspension handles it with no problems. The build quality is top notch, and is very similar in comparison to my old Fox PES, but is easier to adjust and rides a lot better in my opinion. My ONLY complaint is that they don’t have any long travel kits yet for this brand, but that’s expected with the brand being this new, and I’m sure Ride will be coming out with that in the next year or two… right? In the meantime, I look forward to putting many more miles on these bad boys and hitting the trails with them some more.” ~ Collin Riley
